Maxwell was my little brother Tommy’s cat.  Russian Blue - Cat FactsHis actual name that Tommy gave him was Maxwell House Smart.  So, I guess that means he was named after the coffee and Get Smart.  He was an awesome cat and had the best demeanor.

He was also know for his acrobatics.  For instance on one particular Thanksgiving he thought he would entertain us with his parallel couch arm jumping.  He didn’t quite make it to the other arm and ended up with a very fine belly flop into my sister Debbie’s mashed potatoes.  Undaunted Maxwell spent the remainder of the dinner hour licking the mashed tateys from his belly.  Missed attempt?  Calculated move to acquire starches?  You decide.

Maxwell also loved baths.  Often, you had to close the door to keep him out of the tub.  If you started the water and walked out without closing the door you would find him luxuriating in your bath when you returned.  Bubble baths were his particular favorite and sometimes if the bubbles were high you would not know he was there until you either brushed up against him or tried to sit on him.

Most of the time when we had visitors they didn’t know they had to keep the door closed.  Maxwell started his bath ritual as he always did walking around the perimeter of the tub until he “pretended” to fall in.  From the new and the visitors you would hear a shriek as they thought he would claw them to bits when he hit the water.  Not Maxwell, he would nestle down in and float in the tub.  He loved the warm water and enjoyed the bathing experience.

Maxwell, when the bath was finished, would not get out of the tub.  You had to let the water out and he would stay in there until he was not longer able to float.  Then he would stand there and wait for you to dry him off with the towel.  He was a great cat and to be honest I miss our tub soaks.
